John Alspach is a visual artist living and making art in the Twin Cities since 1996, taking inspiration from the city’s streets, and often using materials found there. Discarded billboards, stained and weathered steel, surplus building materials, and mismatched paint have all found their way into his work. These found materials inform his creative process in themselves and other times they are the starting point for more rigorous exploration. Rebuilding and tearing down layers, his work extracts and distills the energy, chaos and vitality of the City from these common urban materials.
