It is no shock that graphic tees are storming into headlines this year, and it’s about time! In a society where a witty text is limited to a cellphone, isn’t it refreshing to have a sassy phrase splattered on a t-shirt? The tops are doing the talking as they diverge from the traditional band logo t-shirt to catchy printed comebacks.
Modern designer Moschino’s tongue and cheek phrases on their garments set the trend this year with printed statements like, “I didn’t know what to wear so I put on this designer t-shirt” to highlight that designers have a sense of humor too. Other labels are applying their own voice in the fashion community. Brands have begun to make a statement that laughs at the designer hierarchy with graphic garments that say “Homies” instead of “Hermes” and “Feline” versus “Celine”. Their stance towards high end fashion designers argue that an amazing piece of clothing doesn’t always have to have the interlocking C’s of approval from Chanel.
The same wit and spunk from these designer trends can be found at the local level with new statement tees from F’n Write Tees at Showroom. These edgy tees will cause some double takes with their clever phrases including, “Selfie Queen” and “Hustle Like a Man Spend Like a F’n Lady”. Not to mention, the statement doesn’t end on the front of the shirt. Many of the tops have cutouts on the back that form anything from decorative slashes to angel wings.
So, if you’re looking for a new outlet of expression, I highly recommend the route of the graphic tee. Because if you can’t say it, put it on a t-shirt.
